On my way to something else, I tuned in to one of Tech Chick Tips podcasts (Back to School) and, as usual, my mind is boggling with new resources and ideas before they even finish. This is a typical reaction whenever I am listening to podcasts in my PLN. Had I had this network and my Twitter group, I swear I wouldn’t have needed to take any tech courses at college. But then, of course, I wouldn’t have been able to have the vendor hotdogs that fed me as I moved from my school day to my evening classes. Yum.
Now I’m aware of a great link for involving students in global awareness issues ( TakingItGlobal), math posters I can print out -most are suitable for more advanced math, but I’ll be sure to use the “pi” chart - and Fablevision, where ten downloadable cool colored posters for our classrooms live. The latter site is also the source for “the 12st century kid” I use on some of my web pages). You’ve got to look at Bugscope – the coolest of the cool. A virtual electronc microscope to look at bugs. It’s free but you need to sign up in advance, so get lookin’ as soon as you can!
The most useful link I’m using immediately is SignAppNow. I have tried a few digital classroom library checkout systems with only moderate success. Bookpedia really failed me on this one. But with SignAppNow, the students will go to the web site I link to them (with a special code I have been given), write in the title and their first name, and I’ll have an instant list that can also tell me something about their reading preferences. I think I will have a second one for turning the book back in – or not – haven’t finished the thinking on that one yet.
The Tech Chicks also reminded us of the wealth of resources in Thinkfinity, where even more resources have recently been added.
